Founded in 2011 by Walid Damirji, by Walid creates modern silhouettes, using ancient fabrics, such as linen and cotton, completely sustainable, its philosophy revolves around the concept of luxury and zero waste.
Born in Iran, Londoner by adoption, Damirji Walid studied art history at Tufts University in Massachusetts in the 1980s, his studio is a treasure trove of fabrics and jewels, antique French furniture and porcelain.
Cut, dye, create using exclusively vintage materials, collected during travels around the world: ” I don’t call it recycling but up -cycle” says the designer, “I find the idea of transforming what has already had a life and making it new, surprising, fascinating. My work does not follow a fixed pattern, but is generally the material to generate the shape. I can combine precious lace with cotton, and then dye everything in an unexpected colour. I only use recycled materials: silk, crochet, trimmings, even fur”.
The By Walid collection combines preciousness and uniqueness, but also simplicity; each piece is different from the other, it is unique and made in a limited number of multiples, the result of a regeneration process, sartorial design.
