FOOTWEAR AND MENSWEAR: MIHARA YASUHIRO’S HISTORY

Mihara Yasuhiro Japanese designer born in 1972 who made his debut in fashion while still a student, entering Tokyo’s Tama Art University at a very young age. In 1994 he created his first collection of sneakers and was noted for his modern and innovative style.

Then the very successful co-labs with the giant Puma, up to luxury with its first men’s collection presented in Milan.

Mihara’s aesthetic evolution has changed a lot over the years, but has always been strongly influenced by the Yankee or American Casual style that was lived in Tokyo in the 90s;

The pursuit of the perfect vintage pieces at that time, the Japanese youth fashion scene was heavily influenced by American casual and military styles, which in turn influenced Mihara’s early collections.

Today the designer is tired of globalization and wants to go back to his origins, to himself and to his world “I’m tired of this globalism and of the people who use iPhones all the time. In an age where information has become much easier to getting globally, I turned to localizing myself with what surrounds me “wrote Mihara Yasuhiro, in his collection notes for his latest men’s and women’s collections.

His style is no longer in search of perfection, but of imperfection because in the imperfect there is beauty; his strategy is to play with flaws and make the seemingly ordinary extraordinary.

The SS22 Maison Mihara Yasuhiro collection pays so much attention to detail pockets, buttons, zips, patterns, themes and colors, stitching, fabrics, embroidery, applications, drooping shoulders on a patchwork denim jacket, a beautifully worn M65 jacket with the flap out of place , elements appear off-kilter or oversize, as Yasuhiro played with cuts to get misshapen constructions. Yasuhiro elevates streetwear with eclectic twists because his karma is to change while remaining anchored to the past.
