Demna Gvasalia presented his Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2023 collection with a very sober campaign, set in the dressing rooms of a boutique of the maison.
A hymn to normality, the protagonist of the campaign is the smartphone, the photos of the collection can be configured to all intents and purposes as well-proportioned mirror-selfies, in which each model wears the garments of the collection surrounded by innovative accessories and updated silhouettes.
Another central theme of the campaign is sustainability: the accessories, eyewear and outerwear in the collection are almost all made with recycled elements, including polyester and bio-based materials.
The focus is on extra size suits, shapes inspired by couture, parkas are transformed into waistcoats, pea coats and trench coats fold up and become crops, decidedly and deliberately crooked buttons and tucked hems, a return to denim which contributes to giving an effortless component to the collection.
The bags are large, with exaggerated proportions, the shoes have sturdy soles and unusual shapes, innovation and restyling such as the Anatomic Shoe, the Home Slide and the Defender, presented in new textures and sizes.
