THE END OF AN ERA, THANK YOU RAF SIMONS

THE END OF AN ERA, THANK YOU RAF SIMONS

After 27 years, the Belgian designer Raf Simons has decided to put a point on the history of his eponymous brand, to devote himself exclusively to the artistic direction of the Italian fashion house Prada .

The announcement came via a post published on his Instagram profile, leaving everyone speechless: “ The Spring / Summer 2023 collection is the conclusion of an extraordinary journey that lasted 27 years and the latest chapter of the Raf brand Simons “, reads the post.

This post closes a chapter in the history of fashion, begun in 1995, an illuminating beacon for men’s fashion and pop youth culture, its aesthetic has inherited the tradition and sense of rebellion of the six Antwerp designers; Ann Demeulemeester , Dries Van Noten , Dirk Bikkembergs , Walter Van Beirendonck , Dirk Van Saene and Marina Yee , of the collective The Antwerp Six, who theorized a minimalist and conceptual style.

Born in 1968, Simons started out as a furniture designer before undertaking an internship in the studio of Walter Van Beirendonck , one of the so-called Antwerp Six .

A lover of contemporary art, attracted to the street and people, he was interested in showing his attitude, his past, present and future more than clothes and collections “ I use memories and visions of the future and look for to place them in today’s world ”.
